First Day of Preschool!!

Wow..so today was a big day in the Capen household. Emma had her first day of preschool. Tim and I have agonized over whether we had prepared her enough for this. It was the first time she has ever been taken care of by someone other than close family. Needless to say, I haven't been looking forward to this. Although, I have tried my hardest to make sure she couldn't pick up on my anxiety. We've read some books about it and talked about it a lot.
This morning when she woke up she said she was "ready for pre-cool" and put on the dress she has picked out just for today. Tim and I could see the wheels start to turn when we all got in the car. She walked in to the school and we said good morning to Mrs. Moon and she grabbed my hand like, "well, you can just come in, too Mommy." But I just kissed and hugged and said goodbye and she tried the same with Daddy. Then, she looked up at us with the saddest, most betrayed look I have EVER seen and I knew we needed to bolt for the sake of all of us.
Tim and I drove back home, Sophie in the back laughing at herself over something, feeling both a bit like we had just been sucker punched.
When we picked her up, Mrs. Moon said she only cried for about 5 minutes...I cried for about 10, so I guess all in all it wasn't so bad. We were sure ready to pick her up and were SO relieved to see her smiling and get huge hugs and kisses. More thankfully, she said she'll go back on Thursday!

Sophie had a fun time at the party. She just got some new shoes that she's trying to get used to.

She had to have her hair put up, just like Jasmine.

Happy 3rd Birthday, Emma!!

Last Saturday we had a full blown princess party for Emma. It began that morning when Emma opened her bedroom door to find that the "birthday fairy" had filled the hallway with balloons. She got a kick out of that. We said she could open one present that morning so she finally, after months of waiting, got her Jasmine outfit along with Jasmine shoes. She, of course, had to wear this all day and for the party. She refused to wear the cute outfit I had put together for her. Hey, it was her birthday, right? She had so much fun playing outside in her new princess playhouse with her cousins and buddies.

Princess cake and wouldn't you guess...lots of princess gifts. Many of the gifts she has seen in the store and I kept saying she would need to ask for them for her birthday and "VOILA," that's what she opened. It was very fun to watch her face. Her jaw dropped a few times. So she is now in complete princess heaven.
